As little girls we daydream about what our wedding day will be like.
I was so obsessed with it I wore my grandmother’s old slips and paraded around our front porch, two steps at a time and always in a straight line. I went through boxes of kleenex by piecing together homemade gowns for my Barbie dolls.
Now that I’m actually wedding planning, I can’t wait for the day to be over and the stress of really planning a wedding to be gone.
Soooo THAT’S the reason all the Disney movies go from first kiss to wedding to credit roll. It wouldn’t be a fairytale anymore if you had to listen to Cinderella talk about table settings with her stepsisters. Or see Snow White hit her prince over the head with the registry scanner because she wants 500-thread count sheets and he wants low ball glasses on clearance.
But as of last week, I made the last payment on my wedding gown and got all my accessories.
Let’s hope it’s an improvement from my dress-up box days.

I dreamed about having my first apartment and it was going to look just like Mary Tyler Moore’s apartment from the TV show set in Minneapolis. It was going to be in an old building and be perfectly decorated, complete with a big “A” [like her “M”].
Of course, the reality is that I ended up living in a concrete high rise adjacent to the interstate with lawn furniture, a card table and milk carton crates for furniture. I was happy, but it was a far cry from what I dreamed about.

I think several of my apartments looked like yours. The chairs were those canvas fold out chairs used at sporting events. All my dishes were plastic. My clothes hung on a wheely clothes line. Ahhhh new adulthood. Good times!
My daydreams of being interviewed by Stephen Colbert were way better than the reality of still NOT being interviewed by him.

Reminds me of when we used to raid my mom’s linen closet, stealing sheets so we could dress up as brides for a few hours. Fun stuff!

My first car. I figured mine would fly, but instead ended up with a Chevette that labored on to get above 50 mph on the freeway. And it was yellow, to boot. Yellow! How quickly childhood dreams die…

I never dreamt of weddings or getting married or anything. I just was never that girl. And the actual wedding planning? Hell on earth. If I ever get married again, I’m eloping. But I’m happy that you are progressing and haven’t killed Joe yet. That’s a good sign! 😉
Well if things were left up to him we’d have Elvis as our officiant.

Such a cute picture! And yay for making progress on the wedding dress and other plans! If our mothers wouldn’t have strung us both up, we would’ve eloped at least three times during our wedding planning. Granted, we squeezed it all in from long-distance and in only five months. I am glad we had the wedding.

I dreamed of getting all dressed up to go to work – hat, gloves, the whole thing you see in black and white movies for career women. By the time I became a career woman it was all about the mannish power suit. Now I put on my stretch pants and trudge down the hall to my computer. I bet your wedding fantasies come closer to the real thing.
I just watched Working Girl a couple weeks ago. The clothes in that movie! And the hair! When will THAT come back?
Yay! I never dreamed about the wedding as a little girl. I know that sounds weird, but while my sister dressed up as a bride, I was absolutely in love with our Miss America costume. I don’t think I even knew it was a beauty pageant thing. There was just a crown and a scepter, and I totally wanted to rule stuff. LOL.
But enjoy the preparations! It is indeed a special day, and you deserve to feel like a princess at your wedding!

I think I had daydreams about family trips and being the mom instead of the kid. You know what? Trips are HARD WORK, which is why we rarely take one.
I can only imagine. Where are you planning on going this year? Somewhere new or a family fave? My family trip when I was little was a day spent at Six Flags Great America. I loved roller coasters and looked forward to that day all summer. We got there when the park opened and left when it closed. #Stamina LOL
