You know the drill. We’re making a mixtape, people.
It’s old school. It’s outdated. Who even has a cd player anymore?
Well, my mother does. It’s a Bose. Because all old people own Boses.
Since 2007, my reoccurring christmas gift to my mother and sister is a Phenomenal Woman Mix Tape, and I rely on YOUR HELP to find the best songs to put on it. Bonus points – in the last five years, I also added a Cafe Mix for all those winter mug holding moments.
So tell me, who are the phenomenal women you’re listing to? And what coffee shop tunes are you chillin’ out with?
Two lucky commenters will win a copy of each CD!

Beautiful timing for me!
Phenomenal women: Basia, Sade, Norah Jones.
Coffee shop tunes*: Holding Back the Years, Simply Red; Everyday I Write the Book, Elvis Costello; and Save Tonight, Eagle Eye Cherry.
*-I have been to two coffee shops in all of 2017. I’m guessing, here.
I had Basia on last year’s cd for the first time. Have you ever checked out Lucius? I love their harmonies!!!
I have definitely hit up more coffee shops than you. Lol. And I’m frequently Shazam-ing songs that catch my attention. But then I’m really sporadic about streaming music at home because I’ll go in spurts of listening to music for a bit, but mostly listening to audio books.

First Aid Kit is one of my absolute favorite bands! I put Wolf on an album two years ago I think. You would also like Lucius if you like FAK. A friend of mine suggested Wildewoman by them last year and I included it, and I’m heavily considering Dusty Trails by them this year.
I have heard some Lucius, and you’re right: not bad! I have a FAK album on vinyl and that one gets some serious spins.
Oooooh! 😍
You might laugh, but I Ike How Far I’ll Go from Moana by Alesia’s Clare. Also, Love Myself by Hailee Steinfeld. If you like other languages, I really like Soy Yo by Bomba Esterio.
We have the Moana soundtrack. 😉
And I used Love Myself on a phenomenal woman mix two years ago I think! I still think it’s a great dance song!
I will check out Soy Yo! I’ve included some Spanish songs on the CDs before, and I really try to include diverse artists now so that’s another plus! Thank you, Crystal!
I hear Cassettes are coming back! There’s are some out there that still make mixes on tape! Go to youtube and type Vinyl community in the search bar and you can make videos about your music collection and make cool friends

I hope you tune in
I just burn everything to CDs. Not as cool as vinyl or as retro as cassettes. But I totally use to make myself mix tapes on cassette. I would sit by the radio for hours waiting for my favorite songs to come on and hit record. I played these tapes in my room, in the car, sometimes even at work. This was all before Napster.
Wow. I feel old. 🤣
would you ever like to do a mix trade via mail?
Oh my God, I am so old. I own a CD player (not Bose) AND I don’t know any of these people! My life is over. *sigh*
LOL. I never said CD players made you old. I have a CD player. I think we have 3 in fact.
So who ARE you listening to now?
Favorite women singers….I could list tons of them but for now the ones that pop out in my head: Enya, Sarah Mclaughlin and Tiffany (I think we’re alone now).
I have been listening to some country ladies lately too.
I think Kelly Clarkson is amazing. Even Pink’s new music is cool.
I don’t have a coffee shop..does my own house count? 😉
Of course your home cafe counts!
I really like Pink’s new album too. I haven’t listened to Kelly Clarkson in awhile. I’ll have to check out her recent stuff.
Phenomenal Women:
“Leave the Light On” – Overcoats
“Deadly Valentine” – Charlotte Gainsbourg
“Capable” – The Wild Reeds
“See You Around” – I’m With Her
“Blue Ridge Mountain” – Hurray for the Riff Raff
Café Mix:
“Come Undone” – Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan
“Women King” – Iron & Wine
Can’t wait to check these out. I always end up downloading stuff you recommend. Thanks for introducing me to LP way back. I freaking love her!!
The Wild Reeds, another great choice. 👍🏼
